Week 2 of the new anime season is already here and I still haven’t blogged about episode 1 of all the animes I’m watching! I’m going to try to write about 10 animes in this post so they’re not going to be very detailed. I’ve never really liked writing summaries of each episode anyway. I always felt that in depth summaries are better left to the pros at Random Curiosity.I’ll just keep my posts to impressions and pointing out of lolworthy screenshots.

I think I said I was going to write things up in the order I watched them, but quite frankly I can’t remember what order I watched them in when I had a 15 episode anime marathon so I’ll just do them more or less alphabetically.First up is 07 Ghost. First thing that surprised me about this show is that it is subbed by Dattebayo. I thought that they died or disbanded or something, but it’s been a long time since I’ve watched naruto anime so I haven’t heard anything about them.
The second thing that surprised me was the yaoi vibes that I’m feeling from this show. Don’t get me wrong – it’s not bad and there isn’t any yaoi but isn’t this a bit too far as “friends”? Apart from that animation is good and storyline is decent – random guy who lost his memory regains some of it, tries to avenge his father, gets pwnt and then runs away leaving his boyfriend behind. There is a hot instructor at his school and the bad guy has white hair and is called Ayanami. It’s not extremely original but it’s not too bad either.
Second is Basquash. Basquash has vibrant colours and an art style I don’t like interesting art style. I think I’ll get used to it eventually like I did with Gurren Lagann. Once again it’s fairly good, but everything this season is quite good so I would place it to the bottom of my watching priority. It’s about some kid that probably ends up playing basketball in a mecha. Though it seems interesting, to me mechas are only cool when they shoot beam weapons/drill holes in each other (Gundam/Code Geass/Gurren Lagann). Eureka 7 was good but sports on a mecha just doesn’t interest me as much. Rideback is another example of sports/mecha that failed to keep me interested.
Third is Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. I guess I don’t really need to say much about this. It’s every bit as good as the first season. It seems to be covering content that was in the other anime as well, but even though I’ve already seen it before and I’ve also read the manga it doesn’t bore me at all. Another one of the top 5 this season!
I really like the cartoon style in the ED movie too – especially the bit at the beginning where Ed’s arm is assembled. It sounds a bit strange saying that the ED is in cartoon style though, after all it should be cartoony because it is anime otherwise it wouldn’t be anime!

YOU WERE ALIVE AFTER ALL LOCKON! (Neil or Lyle it doesn't matter which Lockon)
Fourth is Sengoku Basara. Another good show, based on a PS2 game. I usually quite dislike game -> anime adaptations but this one isn’t bad because it has Lockon. Just from the name you can tell it’s a warring states anime just because it has the word Sengoku in it. What I like most about the show is that it has a very 燃える魂 feel. Hmm I guess that translates to burning soul, which doesn’t make any sense in english. Just think of it as a bit like Gurren Lagann where you want to shout out RAWR RAWR FIGHT THE POWAH when you see a drill. The fight scenes are quite good and the weapons are cool, but I just wonder why does Kenshin have such a disgusting outfit?! Why is Lockon Masamune’s reincarnation? Why does Lockon’s Masamune’s horse have exhaust pipes on it?! The mysteries of modern character design continue to perplex me.
Fifth is Shangri-la which is ok but if I’m going to drop anything, it will probably be this. When I saw the pic in the Spring anime preview I though: girl with weapon = win. However this show is not actually win because it has lots of stuff about carbon dioxide and global warming which somehow annoys me. Makes me feel like I’m watching the news… The characters seem a little strange too. I can’t tell if the character in the pic below is an okama or not, but I think so. I didn’t really feel like taking many screenshots of this show so you only get this one disturbing image.

Sixth and last is Valkyria Chronicles.Valkyria Chronicles is also another game -> anime adaptation. Was a PS3 game though! It doesn’t seem particularly engaging but the main character girl is kind of cute and the art style is cool! Apparently in the game all scenes were made to look like a watercolour painting and you can see that kind of style in the anime too in certain scenes. I kind of like that. If I run out of time I’ll probably have to drop this too though, after Shangri-la. I remember seeing a post on Danny Choo about there being some ridiculously overpowered tank in the anime, which is carried over from there being a ridiculously overpowered tank in the game XD At least it’s a faithful adaptation!

srs face =D
Well that’s not actually the last. I was intending to shove all the animes I am watching into this post, but now that I am up to 6 I realise that the post is getting really long and it’s getting late and I want to sleep so I’ll write the rest up in a separate post tomorrow.
